Big news for your Able UP account: starting November 10, 2026, you'll have a powerful new option for making purchases using the funds in your Able UP account — the True Link Visa® Prepaid Card.
The True Link Visa® Prepaid Card carries no monthly fee for Able UP account owners, and serves as an optional, trusted tool designed for account owners and authorized legal representatives to make the everyday purchases they need.
True Link Financial is the company Able UP and Vestwell have partnered with to bring you the prepaid card. Beginning November 10, 2026, Vestwell will serve as the program manager and recordkeeper behind your Able UP account, with True Link powering the True Link Visa® Prepaid Card that participants can use to spend from it.
Requesting Your First Card
Beginning November 10, 2026, Able UP account owners can:
- Request a card online. Log in to your Able UP account online and click on “Sign up with True Link” in the Prepaid Card tile found in the bottom right of your dashboard. This link takes you to the True Link enrollment page for Able UP, where you can submit the requested information to order your first card. See how to place your card order.
- Your card arrives. Once submitted, your order will be reviewed by our support team. If all of your information is in order, we’ll mail your card. Cards typically arrive in the mail via USPS within 7 business days.
- Fund your card. Log in to your Able UP account at ableup.vestwell.com and select the True Link Visa® Prepaid Card as the destination for your withdrawal of funds. Withdrawals from the Able UP account will be available on the card within 2 to 3 business days, so we recommend loading the card in advance, in anticipation of future spend. - Activate and start spending. Once your card arrives, activate it online, by phone, or with our support team. Once activated it can be used anywhere Visa® debit cards are accepted. See how to activate your card.
New Features Available to You
The True Link Visa® Prepaid Card is a reloadable prepaid card — it isn't linked to a checking account, and it won’t pull money directly from your Able UP account when you spend. Instead, you choose how much to load onto the card ahead of time. Only that amount will be available to spend until you add more — allowing you to keep funds invested in the Able UP account and working for you.
The card is built specifically for Able UP participants, and comes with features designed around how you use your Able UP account:
- Order a card for each person who needs one — for the account owner, an authorized legal representative (ALR), or both. Each card has its own balance and spending settings.
- Easily record and track expenses — upload and store receipts, add memos to transactions, and download statements and reports that track eligible expenses.
- Spend more safely and independently — choose settings that limit purchases by merchant, category, or amount, and if there isn't enough on the card to cover a purchase, it's simply declined with no overdraft charge.
- Stay in the know — customize SMS or email alerts for things like a low balance or a large transaction, and more.*
- Easy access on the go — download the True Link app to check your balance, review transactions, and manage spending settings, all from your phone.
- Peace of mind — funds on the card are FDIC insured, backed by Visa Zero Liability, and offered with AI-powered fraud prevention technology. Just like the funds in your Able UP account, the funds on your True Link Visa® Prepaid Card under $100,000 do not impact Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits eligibility.

What is the True Link Visa® Prepaid Card and how does it work?
The True Link Visa® Prepaid Card is an optional, reloadable prepaid card designed to help you make the everyday purchases you need with funds from your Able UP account.
The card is not linked to a checking account, and it won’t pull money directly from your Able UP account when you spend. Instead, you’ll withdraw funds from your account and load them onto the card in advance. Only the amount you withdraw will be available to spend until you add more — allowing you to keep funds invested in your Able UP account and working for you. If there are not enough funds on the card to cover a purchase, that transaction will simply be declined. There are no overdraft fees whatsoever.
Loading the card can be done after you’ve received it by logging in to your Able UP account at ableup.vestwell.com and selecting the True Link Visa® Prepaid Card as the destination for your withdrawal of funds. Withdrawals from the Able UP account will be available on the card within 2 to 3 business days, so we recommend loading the card in anticipation of future purchases.
The True Link Visa® Prepaid Card also comes with its own online dashboard and mobile app, where you can check the card's balance, review transactions, manage card settings, and more.
I am an organizational ALR. Can I enroll in a card?
Yes, as an organizational authorized legal representative (organizational ALR), you can order and manage True Link Visa® Prepaid Cards on behalf of the account owners you support.
For each Able UP account, you have the option to order one or both of the below:
- Account owner card — printed in the Able UP account owner’s name only. This card is typically held by the account owner and used by them to make purchases.
- Organizational ALR card — printed in the account owner’s name, with your organization's name on the second line. This card is typically kept at your office and used by authorized staff to make purchases on the account owner’s behalf.
The card platform includes several features designed for organizations managing multiple cards, including the ability to manage all cards from a unified dashboard, assign staff login credentials with customizable permissions (e.g., full access, view only), download statements per individual or across the organization, and more.

Does the card have a monthly fee?
No. As an Able UP participant, you pay no monthly fee for your True Link Visa® Prepaid Card. There is no minimum balance requirement, so you’ll pay no monthly fee for the card regardless of how much you choose to load onto the card.
